The Network Marketing Mistake That’s Making You Look Dumb

Is Network Marketing Embarasing?

This week, one of my team members confessed something that totally embarrassed her.

It didn’t totally surprise me – I’d sort of guessed it after a conversation we’d had earlier. (I’m not a mind reader, but it was kinda obvious)

But I think for her it was a revelation that could possibly change the course of her Network Marketing business.

Ready to hear what it was?

Even though she’d promoted several levels and was enjoying the added residual income from her business, she realized that she was embarrassed to tell people that she was working in a direct selling business.  In a way, deep down, she thought she was too educated for direct sales.

Now – I don’t know if that’s something you can identify with or not. I don’t know if you’re 100% comfortable telling your family or friends about what you do (if you already are working a network marketing business). Or – if you’re considering signing up with a Network Marketing or Direct Sales Company, maybe you’re dealing with your fear about that right now.

If that kind of issue is something you’re experiencing, I want you to know that I think it’s amazingly honest and healthy to get it out there!  We can’t deal with fear unless we take a look at it and see it for what it is!

And underneath the issue that my team member was afraid of is an issue that is huge for us in network marketing businesses.

Getting Your Mind Right

I’m talking about your mindset.

Mindset is one of the popular buzzwords right now, and it’s one that a lot of so-called online coaches toss out there a lot because it’s easy to set yourself up as a mindset expert just by reading a few positive quotes here and there. But understanding your mindset takes more than just some feel good sayings, in my opinion. Being intentional about your mindset takes some digging to see what you’re dealing with in the first place!  Because there are so many different kinds of mindset tools and processes out there – but not every person will respond to every mindset tool – it depends on the issues and particular limiting beliefs that they’re dealing with!

In this case, I helped my team member shift her perspective. I wasn’t going to try to just flat out tell her that her mindset was wrong.  Honestly – anyone who tries to adjust a mindset that way really doesn’t respect the power of the mind, in my opinion. Think about it – when’s the last time you wanted to take the advice of someone whose first approach was to tell you how wrong you are.

Is Your Vision so Clear That it’s a Plan?

In this case, I invited my team member to dream again and get back in touch with her why for working this business.  Once she was more connected with that again, I encouraged her to see her network marketing business as nothing more than the vehicle that would take her from where she is now in her life to where she wants to be.   No need to worry about recreating her image of herself, or whether this business is real, or anything like that – in a sense – none of that mattered.

The point I’m trying to make is this – our mindset has the ability to recharge and empower us to achieve our goals – or it can be the thing that subtly blocks our progress toward the things we want most in life. Taking the time to pay attention to your mindset as you grow your business is one of the most important things you can do.

How often do you make time to perceive your mindset?  Leave me a comment below!
